Prime Plymouth site sells in six figures

The coffers of Plymouth City Council have been boosted with the £827,000 sale of its former register office. (FRI NOV 1)

Extending to a total of 0.27 hectares (0.67 acres), the site in Lockyer Street, next to the iconic Plymouth Hoe, was listed at auction with a freehold guide price of £295,000.

But it drew considerable interest with 240 separate bids before the hammer finally fell in the sale by Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.

It includes a two-storey block with offices and ceremony rooms over 574 sq m (6,175 sq ft), parking for 20 cars

Land on the east side of Vicarage Lane, which extends to approximately 9.08 acres (3.67 hectares), was sold for £450,000 freehold.

Symonds & Sampson held their ‘beat the budget’ auction ahead of the announcements on 30 October and report a strong trade for both land and bricks and mortar.
 
Auctioneer Mark Lewis said “ We thought a few buyers would fall away whilst awaiting to hear how the budget would affect them but, although we missed a couple, most bidders were looking longer term and wanting to earn income rather than look towards capital tax planning.”
