Offered under instructions from Tendring District Council, the Thorpe Road property is listed with a freehold guide price of £650,000 to £750,000 and part vacant possession.

The council decided in July to dispose of the property which was surplus to requirements, had remained vacant for some time and was incurring costs of around £65,000 a year.

Regional Director & Auctioneer Paul Bridgeman said: “We are anticipating strong interest in these former council offices, arranged over three floors and providing multiple offices offering versatile accommodation, including the council chamber itself.

“We have been advised by the seller the site is already recognised as Allocated for Housing in the Tendring District Local Plan (B.28 Weeley), subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.”

“Currently presented in shell-like condition, the property remains incomplete and offers a blank canvas for those wishing to complete the project to their own specifications and taste.

“Electricity is supplied to the house by a nearby solar farm which is included within the sale.”

The total area extends to 0.88 hectares (2.18 acres) and includes tree preservation orders as designated by Castle Point District Council.
