North Devon 'haunted house' sells at auction
A 12 bedroom Victorian clifftop property was sold at auction at the end of last month.
Not unsual in itself, given it has stunning views over the Atlantic and massive refurbishment potential, however it comes with one drawback - it is widely referred to as the "haunted house".
The house on the cliff edge in Westward Ho! in North Devon, was built about 1885. The road leading to it was especially built to enable access to the house and was initially known as Seafield Road, later it became Merley Road.
The house will prove quite a project for the new owner as it needs “extensive refurbishment”, and has huge cracks in the walls, with some rooms too dangerous to enter. Even though, the outside of the house looks pretty scary to some, the scope for development is undeniably huge across this spacious 3-storey property.
The new owner, a local businessman, bought the iconic cliff top building for £414,000 but has been tight lipped about his plans for the house.
The guide price for Seafield House was £400,000 to £500,000.
