Llandudno's Grand Theatre and nightclub sells at auction
Llandudno's Grand Theatre, and former Broadway Boulevard nightclub, was sold last week at auction for £140,000.
The dilapidated property went under the hammer with no reserve price, it could have sold for just £1 , but it sold at auction with Allsops in London for £140,000.
Broadway Boulevard closed in June 2013 after parent company Atmosphere Bars and Clubs went into administration.
Initially the landmark site was put up for sale for £750,000, it was reduced to £500,000 and was then put up for auction in December. At that sale it failed to meet the reserve.
Despite mentioning the potential to start the Lot at £1 the auctioneer got the bidding for the club going at £60,000. It quickly rocketed to £100,000 with interest in the auction room, from phone bidders and also on the internet. The auctioneer squeezed another £40,000 out of the bidders - bringing the gavel down at £140,000.
The successful buyer at the London auction, purchased it over the internet and further details about them are not yet known.
Originally the building was the Grand Theatre which became nationally famous during the Second World War as the popular radio show ITMA (It’s That Man Again) featuring comedian Tommy Handley was broadcast from there.
And before becoming a nightclub it had been home to a repertory company which staged a wide variety of plays.
The condition of the 1,000 capacity Boulevard has been deteriorating since its closure back in 2013.
