Former police building set for homes after being sold at auction
A former police facility that has planning permission for two new homes sold for nearly £270,000 at auction.
The property, in Ermine Street South, Papworth Everard, near Cambridge, attracted plenty of interest and eventually went to a local developer.
It was sold for £268,000 - £18,000 more than its upper guide price.
The site was previously used by Cambridgeshire Constabulary as a police service facility. It currently features two single-storey brick buildings and a single garage.
South Cambridgeshire District Council has already granted outline planning permission to demolish all buildings and replace them with two detached residential properties, each with gardens and parking.
Ian Kitson of our Property Auctions department said the interest in the site continued to demonstrate the ongoing strength of the local property market.
"It underlines the scarcity of such opportunities and confirms the premiums that developers are currently willing to pay to secure such schemes.
"Sites similar to this - in a well regarded village outside Cambridge with potential for new homes - will continue to attract those who want a high quality development opportunity.
This site in particular generated some fierce bidding and there were plenty of pre-sale enquiries. It was eventually sold to a local developer who is well known for high spec housing schemes."
It was the second auction that Cheffins' Property Auctions department has sold a site for Cambridge Constabulary, with a former police interview facility in Bottisham going for £505,000 - £80,000 more than the guide price.
Cheffins next property auction will take place on Wednesday 22 June at Cheffins, Clifton House in Cambridge.
