Shelter sells at auction
A former bomb shelter – with its own parking space – has sold for £30,000 at auction. Located in Morweth Drive, Top Road, it was among 180 lots in the latest sale by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers. It had a freehold guide of £25,000 plus.
The shelter measures 13m by 3m inside, while its parking space is on a long lease in the nearby Morweth View car park.
Auction Appraiser James Lofthouse said: “This bomb shelter certainly caught the attention at auction.
“Its location within the popular coastal village of Downderry with sea views ready access to the various clifftops, beaches and footpaths nearby were among its attractions.
“The new owner may have a number of uses in mind, whether that is for storage, a workshop or some form of further development, subject to all the necessary consents.”

Former bank takes the money
‘Substantial’ commercial premises in St Austell with planning permission for six flats and a commercial unit have sold for £150,000 freehold. (WED SEPT 18)
The detached, two-storey block on Duke Street was formerly used as a bank and then as a training centre.
It was among 180 lots listed in the latest auction held by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.
Auctioneer David Henwood said: “This substantial commercial property came to auction with planning permission for residential development.
“Keen bidding, which took it above its guide of £140,000, showed the interest in the building. The new owner may wish to follow the planning permission or may have an alternative scheme of their own in mind, subject to the necessary consents.”
The property was auctioned jointly with Miller Commercial of Truro.
At Biscovellett, near St Austell, a field of freehold land with a former quarry sold for £39,000. It measures 6.61 acres (2.67 hectares). It was listed with a freehold guide of £35,000 plus.
In Beach Road, Carlyon Bay, a detached three-bedroom house sold at £370,000 freehold.
Auction appraiser James Lofthouse said: “This house requires some decoration but also offers the new owner potential to enhance some of the accommodation, subject to all the necessary consents.”

Investment property snapped up at auction
A mixed-use investment property in Redruth town centre has sold for £111,000 at auction.
Located in Fore Street, it was among 180 lots in the latest sale by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.
It features two ground floor commercial units with a three-bedroom flat above.
Both of the ground floor shops are already let to a bakery and a floristry on commercial tenancies. The flat is also occupied and together they deliver a total of £12,000 per annum.
Auctioneer David Henwood said: “This mixed-use freehold property sold in excess of its freehold guide of £90,000 to £100,000.
“It offers the new owner an immediate return on investment with all components of the property fully let.”

They included houses, a lock-up garage and a shop. They were among 180 lots in the latest sale by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.
In Marazion, two properties in need of updating sold for £266,500 freehold – well above their guide.
Trefa and Tremel in Fore Street were together listed at £195,000 plus. Trefa is double-fronted house with four bedrooms, while Tremel has two double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms.
Auctioneer David Henwood said “The buyer has seized an exciting opportunity to acquire two properties in a popular coastal town.
“They are in close walking distance of the famous St Michael’s Mount and share a good-sized courtyard and garden.
“Both require an extensive course of updating throughout and post works would make a fabulous family home with an annexe attached, or the new owner may see the potential for two lucrative holiday lets, subject to the necessary consents.”
They were auctioned in arrangement with Andrew Exelby Estate Agents of St Just.
* A shop formerly used as an ice-cream parlour in The Crescent, Bude, has sold for £45,000 freehold.
The hammer fell at £20,000 above its freehold guide of £25,000 plus.
It has a window display looking out to the main road and Bude Tourist Information Centre and its car park a short distance from the town centre.
The shop was auctioned in arrangement with Miller Commercial of Truro.
* In Carbis Bay, near St Ives, a three/four bedroom detached bungalow in need of renovation replacement or fetched £120,305 against a freehold guide of £35,000 plus.
Auctioneer David Henwood said: “There was keen interest in this property with more than 70 separate bids at auction.
“Bidders were clearly attracted by its location in a residential area just one and a half miles away from the popular seaside town of St Ives.
“While in need of remedial works, the property may have also appealed to some bidders with an eye on demolition and replacement, subject to all the necessary consents.”
The house in White House Close was auctioned jointly with Marshall’s Estate Agents of Penzance.
* In Hayle, a lock-up garage to the rear of Bay View Terrace hit its freehold guide to sell for £10,000 plus.
Park life appeals in Bodmin
A property next to a park in Bodmin has sold at auction for £93,600.
The Old Cottage, a single-storey detached building, is located in a mixed-use area of the town, next to Victoria Square children’s play area and car park.
It was among 180 lots in the latest sale by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers. The cottage had a freehold guide of £65,000 to £75,000.
Auction Appraiser James Lofthouse said: “Keen interest in this property took it to a sale price in excess of its guide.
“While in need of some renovation, it offers the new owner potential for a number of uses, all subject to the necessary consents.”
