South West voted favourite place to live
If money were no object then most would pack their bags and head to home of cream teas and Cornish pasties, a survey by Prime Location has found, but would only want a “modest” five bedroom home.
The research also suggests that in an ideal world, most people would shun the bright lights of the city, with half of people surveyed aspiring to live in a rural village or a country town and around a fifth choosing a seaside town as the perfect place to live.
Just one in seven of the 3,500 home questioned would choose to live in London - despite house prices holding up relatively strongly the capital – while 30% chose the South West as their dream location.
The North East came off the worst in the whole of Britain, with only 1% of people saying they would love to live there.
Victorian and Edwardian homes are seen as the most desirable properties and a multi car garage and walk-in wardrobes were also high on people's which lists. The majority also said that their ideal home would be detached.
But it doesn’t matter how perfect the house is if the neighbours from hell live next door, it was found. 57% said that anti-social neighbours would put them off buying a home, and 28% even claimed that an unkempt garden would make a home less desirable.
In second place as the most popular area to set up home was the South East, chosen by 25%, followed by London, with as many people wanting to live just in Mayfair, Chelsea and Kensington as the rest of the city.
The East of England was chosen as the next top place to live with 6% of the vote, followed by Yorkshire and the Humber and Wales with 4% each, and Scotland, the West Midlands and North West, all on 3%. Coming out as marginally more popular than the North East was the East Midlands, which received 2% of the vote.
